Collection: Suprematism

Suprematism was an abstract art movement founded in Russia in 1915 by Kazimir Malevich. It was characterized by geometric shapes and forms devoid of representational content, often rendered in bold, flat colors. Malevich's Black Square (1915) is considered one of the most iconic works of the movement. Suprematist artists aimed to create a new form of art that transcended the material world and expressed pure feeling and spirituality. The movement had a significant influence on the development of abstract art, particularly in the 20th century. It was also closely tied to the Russian Revolution and the search for a new artistic language that could reflect the ideals of the new socialist society. Suprematism had a relatively short life span but left a lasting impact on the history of art.
