Born in Vietnam, Duy came to the United States with his family as refugees in 1981. His struggles to assimilate and deal with displacement proved to be a transforming chapter in his life. Duy's first taste of art came in the form of comic books, animation and graffiti. As a young boy he often drew heroic characters. With a developing passion for drawing Duy Huynh attended UNC Charlotte to become an illustrator. Near the end of his college years he fell in love with painting and the rest they say is history. Of his art he says "The characters I create often float (literally) somewhere between science and spirituality, memory and mythology. The intent isn’t necessarily to provide enlightenment, but to celebrate the quest itself."
