Norman Rockwell was a famous American illustrator and painter with a prolific career spanning the majority of his adult life. He produced thousands of works with a common theme, producing what we'd call the quintessential artistic representation of life pre- and post World War II in America. A vast majority of his illustrations depict sweet scenarios such as children with their dogs, boys playing ball and a variety of other potentially-comedic imagery. These "Rockwellesque" pictures were a staple for The Saturday Evening Post for nearly 50 years and found a home on many covers of the Boy Scouts' magazine Boy's Life.
Rockwell also captured many U.S. presidents, historical figures and generally well-known persons in his illustrations, and is additionally famous for his Freedom Series, which he painted during World War II: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship and Freedom from Fear.
Some of his later works abandon the saccharin sweetness of large-eyed and rosy-cheeked families as Rockwell chose to tackle more serious subjects. These works include Murder in Mississippi, The Problem We All Live With, and War News.
